Captain Michael Ikemeier is the proud owner and guide behind Precision Backcountry Charters, serving the vibrant fishing community of St. Petersburg, Florida. A native of the Sunshine State, Captain Michael grew up with a rod in hand and saltwater in his veins. His connection to the outdoors began early, and over time, he transformed his lifelong passion for fishing into a meaningful career on the water. Today, he welcomes guests aboard with genuine enthusiasm, offering personalized trips that reflect his years of experience and deep appreciation for Florida’s diverse marine environments.
Choosing a life far from the office, Captain Michael left the traditional 9-to-5 routine to follow his calling on the water. This decision was fueled by a desire to share the quiet beauty of Florida’s flats and bays with others—especially those eager to learn or reconnect with nature. Whether you’re casting your first line or refining your technique, he’s committed to providing a patient and engaging experience where everyone feels comfortable and confident.
Captain Michael specializes in light tackle fishing and enjoys guiding trips both inshore and offshore. One of his favorite approaches is sight fishing—spotting fish in shallow waters and guiding anglers through the rewarding process of a successful cast and hook. He also enjoys the precision and timing of flat lining live bait while trolling, a technique that offers consistent opportunities for exciting catches. His knowledge, calm demeanor, and dedication to teaching make every outing productive and enjoyable for all skill levels.
Precision Backcountry Charters operates two reliable vessels suited for different fishing styles and group sizes. The primary boat, a 23' Hanson powered by a 225HP Yamaha engine, was built in 2018 and comfortably fits up to four guests. With a cruising speed of up to 35 knots, it’s perfect for covering a range of water quickly and smoothly. For more shallow or technical trips, the 17' Ranger Banshee is the go-to choice. Built in 2000 and powered by a 50HP Yamaha, it reaches speeds up to 10 knots and offers a stable ride for up to three guests. Each vessel is maintained with care to ensure safety, comfort, and dependable performance on the water.
